In contrast to most of the other East India companies operating in the eighteenth century the Swedish East India Company (SEIC) did not leave any extensive archive behind. Among the relatively few surviving documents one quite unique series has however survived, namely a series of sales catalogues listing the goods put up for sale in Gothenburg between 1733 and 1759. During its heyday, the Danish East India Company and Swedish East India Company imported more tea than the British East India Companyand smuggled 90 percent of it into Britain, where it could be sold at a huge profit.
