Aron Ralston was recovering in the hospital when the calls and emails began to flood in from around the world. He was that guy who had cut off his own hand to save himself from a lonely death in a narrow canyon. Aron’s decision to amputate saved his life, and he was left with a choice about what to do with the second chance he had been given.

This happened on the 1st of May 2003. He amputated his lower right arm with a dull knife to set himself free. This is the story he had to tell GQ Sport's James Mullinger.
