The giant straw goat, erected on the first Sunday of Advent, stood until New Year’s Eve when it was burned down in an act of vandalism. The next year, another goat was built, and it became a tradition. Throughout the years, the Gävle goat has ranged from 6.6 feet high to 49 feet tall.

The twist is that this tradition has history on vandalism and arson. Every year since 1966, people have tried to burn the big goat down, and most years they were successful. Throughout the years, the Gävle goat has ranged from 6.6 feet high to 49 feet tall. In 2018 The Gävlebocken twitter account recorded two incidents: an unspecified 'harassment' on 7 December, and an intrusion into the goat's enclosure on 31 December, from someone claiming to need to use the toilet. I'm not down with using a Goat's enclosure as a toilet, but do not take this as kink shaming. In 2019 the goast survived.
