In 2015 a storm damaged some parts of the stairs. Instead of fixing the damage, the stairway was fenced off and deemed highly dangerous and illegal to climb. Is It Really That Dangerous? The Haʻikū Stairs, also known as the Stairway to Heaven or Haʻikū Ladder, is a steep hiking trail on the island of Oʻahu, Hawaii. The total 3,922 steps span along Oahu's Ko'olau mountain range.
While the out-of-state fee may sound as steep as the stairway, it’s way cheaper than the current trespassing fine. Right now, hikers caught trespassing can be fined up to $600 and/or spend up to six months in prison. 4000 stairs.
What to expect: The Haiku Stairs are 3,922 steps across the Ko'olau range that leads to easily the best views on Oahu. This hike is illegal and can come with a $700+ ticket if you are caught.
